Giving Up on God: Edge of Doom and the Burden of Faith
Stephen Broomer, September 20, 2021

Edge of Doom is a film about the lonely condition of the priest in a godless society; the lonelier position of the devout, forsaken and abused by church law; loneliest are those who live under a cloud of bruised faith. Their world is New York City, portrayed as a hell of oily nights in sick lamplight; peeling wallpaper in overcrowded tenements; and grinning predators. This video essay considers Mark Robson’s Edge of Doom as a parable in which, where church fails, conscience can save the soul of man.
